FreeFlight Secures Approval for Part 27 ADS-B Installs
FreeFlight worked with Peregrine to obtain the AML supplemental type certificate for Part 27 rotorcraft.

FreeFlight Systems received approval clearing the way for installation for its Rangr line of ADS-B products on a variety of Airbus Helicopters, Bell and Robinson rotorcraft. FreeFlight worked with Peregrine to obtain the approved model list supplemental type certificate (AML STC) for Part 27 rotorcraft.

The Rangr line comprises small, lightweight systems that are available in a number of configurations to best suit rotorcraft. “The industry has been tackling the challenges associated with rotorcraft ADS-B equipage for some time,” said FreeFlight Systems CEO Tim Taylor, adding the company configured the systems with the “unique nature of rotorcraft equipage and operation” in mind.

The AML STC covers both ADS-B out and in applications. The Rangr transceivers integrate ADS-B in and out with an optional high-integrity WAAS/GPS in a single unit without needing to replace the aircraft transponder. In addition, the Rangr receiver can be paired with installed 978 and 1090 MHz-based ADS-B out systems to provide ADS-B in capabilities.
