Danniel Hoose, owner of Shasta Fire Equipment in Redding, Calif., pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court, Sacramento, Calif., to one count of falsely certifying more than 570 oxygen cylinders for re-use, including re-use in aircraft. In May, a case was filed alleging that in the spring of 2013 Hoose represented that he performed hydrostatic testing on a special permit oxygen cylinder installed in an aircraft, when, in fact no such testing had been completed.
The investigation determined that Hoose's requalification equipment was in disrepair; therefore, he was unable to properly test the cylinders in accordance with Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration regulations. Hoose allegedly falsified the cylinder hydrostatic testing certifications and returned the cylinders to their owners for use. Hoose is scheduled for sentencing in September. Hoose declined to comment to AIN.
