Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s flight training department at its Daytona Beach, Fla. campus became the first flight training organization in the U.S. to complete International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO) Stage 1 registration, the college announced today. The certification required ERAU’s flight training department to undergo a rigorous auditing process that evaluates the functionality and effectiveness of its safety management system.
While this industry code of best practices was developed by the International Business Aviation Council (IBAC) mainly for business aviation operators, it can also be applied to aviation training organizations.
“At Embry-Riddle, safety is our primary goal,” said Daytona Beach campus flight training department chairman Ken Byrnes. “The achievement of IS-BAO registration provides further verification of our robust safety management system and strong safety culture.”
IBAC general director Kurt Edwards said ERAU’s flight department “has demonstrated that it practices what it teaches: a commitment to leadership in safety management and risk mitigation.”
