FAA Proposes Penalty against Centurion Air Cargo
Company operated an MD-11 not in compliance with FARs, says agency.

The FAA proposed a $66,000 civil penalty against Centurion Air Cargo of Miami, Fla., for allegedly operating an MD-11 not in compliance with federal air regulations. Specifically, the agency claims Centurion operated the aircraft on at least 12 flights between June 5 and 11, 2013, while failing to properly comply with minimum equipment list (MEL) procedures after receiving a fuel quantity fault indication during a June 5 flight. The FAA alleges Centurion did not post the required placarding of the fuel quantity indicator as inoperable and to also failed verify the tail and forward auxiliary tanks were empty after refueling.

The agency also alleges Centurion operated the aircraft on four flights after discovering the door slide indicator was inoperative. Centurion again failed to follow MEL procedures by placarding the light as inoperative and verifying that the evacuation slide system was adequately charged each day the aircraft flew.
