Universal Avionics has teamed with Rockwell Collins on an affordable, integrated ADS-B OUT solution for business aircraft. The solution pairs the Collins TDR-94(D) mode-S transponder with Universal’s SBAS-flight management system, providing DO-260B-compliant ADS-B and pathways for controller-pilot datalink communications and localizer performance with vertical guidance.
“The biggest value of this package is that operators receive an integrated SBAS-FMS,” said Universal Avionics business development manager Carey Miller. “While providing ADS-B OUT compliance, an important feature of our combined solution is that it also provides a path to future technologies and mandates such as LPV and datalink,” he added. “Other solutions address only ADS-B OUT.”
Customers with legacy Universal FMSs might be able to keep their control display unit and install an SBAS navigation computer unit with antenna and Collins TDR-94(D), Universal said. For non-Universal Avionics customers, the company is offering an upgrade incentive program this year that gives trade-in credit for Garmin GNS 430/530 GPS navcoms and Honeywell GNS-X/XES/XLS, KNS 660 and NZ-2000 FMSs.
