Less than three years after Comlux America opened its new VIP aircraft completions hangar in Indianapolis, the company broke ground on an expansion to accommodate its move into widebody work. Comlux America held the groundbreaking ceremony on Monday with Indianapolis mayor Greg Ballard, former Indiana governor and Purdue University president Mitch Daniels, Kite Realty chairman Al Kite, Indiana commerce secretary Victor Smith and Comlux America CEO Scott Meyer. The planned expansion is “in direct correlation” with Comlux America’s first contract for a widebody completion, an Airbus ACJ330, the company said. The aircraft, based in Asia, will be Comlux America’s ninth interior completion.
The nearly 30,000-sq-ft expansion will involve an extension of the existing hangar, boosting the space there to 157,000 sq ft. This will accommodate one widebody and up to four narrowbody aircraft simultaneously. Comlux expects the project to take about six months to complete. “We are now capable of doing any type of narrow or widebody completions, making us an even stronger player in the industry and [putting us] on an equal playing field with our biggest competitors,” said Richard Gaona, chairman and CEO of Comlux the Aviation Group.
