Inmarsat, Honeywell Complete High-speed Data Tests
Team was able to demonstrate that the high-speed GX aviation network can support multiple file transfers and video streaming.

Honeywell’s JetWave MCS 8200 onboard datacom system passed over-the-air performance tests on Inmarsat’s Global Xpress satellite network earlier this month, the companies announced today. During the testing conducted at Honeywell’s Tewkesbury, UK facility, the team was able to demonstrate that the high-speed GX aviation network can support multiple file transfers and video streaming.

Meanwhile, Honeywell’s JetWave MCS 8200, which enables aircraft to connect to the Global Xpress network, is in certification testing, currently undergoing DO-160 environmental and electromagnetic interference certifications. Flight testing of the system is expected to start in the second quarter. In addition, work is being done to ensure that the equipment is available for installation on Bombardier Globals, as well as on Boeing airliners and Airbus A350s.

GX is already operational in the Indian Ocean region, the Americas and the Atlantic Ocean region. A third satellite that will provide coverage for the Pacific Ocean region is scheduled for launch in the second quarter. That satellite will complete the Global Xpress network and provide worldwide coverage.
