AgustaWestland has good news from the Langkawi International Marine and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) held this week in Malaysia. The European rotorcraft manufacturer announced the delivery of two AW139 twin-engine helicopters to Malaysian corporate operators for VIP transport. In addition, the Indonesian national search and rescue agency signed an order for an AW139 in SAR configuration.

With a maximum cruise speed of 165 knots and a range of more than 500 nm, the AW139 is in service with several Malaysian operators, including Weststar Aviation, Bomba and the country’s Maritime Enforcement Agency. In normal VIP configuration, the AW139 accommodates six to 10 passengers. AgustaWestland offers a full range of options, including audio-visual equipment, telecommunications suites and refreshment accommodations.

On the para-public service front, Indonesia’s Badan SAR Nasional (Basarnas) ordered one of the intermediate-twin AW139s for search-and-rescue duty. The contract includes training for aircrew and technicians; as well as an initial support package. Ground services will come from Indoplelita Aircraft Service, which signed a contract in November to provide support in the region. In SAR configuration, the AW139 has six hours of endurance and up to 675 nm of range.

AgustaWestland has sold more than 900 AW139s to more than 220 customers in 70 different countries.
