Bombardierâs Learjet business continues to improve, ending 2014 with the announcement of an order for six Learjet 75s and options for three more. The firm order, from an undisclosed customer, is valued at $83 million, but that figure could grow to $124 million if all options are exercised.
Bombardier president and CEO Pierre Beaudoin told analysts during recent quarterly calls that while orders have ebbed for some of its larger models, âwe see some signs of picking up in the light market,â particularly with the introduction of the Learjet 70 and 75. Despite an engine fan-blade Airworthiness Directive that slowed second-quarter Learjet 75 deliveries, Bombardier handed over 16 Learjets, including fifteen 70/75s, in the first nine months of last year. This compared with nine total Learjets in the same period in 2013.
The new Learjets, which are updates of the 40 and 45, gave the Learjet delivery total a bounce by the end of 2013, with 18 being delivered in the fourth quarter of that year alone. However, the Learjet business continues to rest on the 70 and 75, since Bombardier slowed progress on the Learjet 85 and has yet to give a timeline for the would-be flagship Learjet.
