Global Bizav Flying Climbs 2.2% in 3Q14, Says JSSI
Results are consistent with macro trends in the greater U.S. economy in that there continues to be steady growth.

Global business aviation activity grew 2.2 percent year-over-year in the third quarter, according to Jet Support Services’ (JSSI) latest business aviation index, released today. “The results we’re seeing are consistent with macro trends in the greater U.S. economy in that there continues to be steady growth, but at a slightly lower rate than during the second quarter,” noted JSSI president Neil Book. The company tracks the number of hours that business aircraft have flown by region and industry.

At the industry level, the aviation, construction, healthcare and consumer goods sectors all saw positive growth from a year ago, the last posting a 12.3-percent gain. Flying activity waned in the business services, financial services, real estate, power/energy and manufacturing segments, with the last falling 18.8 percent year-over-year.

By region, flying in Europe, Middle East and South America was up from a year ago by double digits–10.1, 15.5 and 14.4 percent, respectively–while North America posted a 2.5-percent rise. Central America and Asia Pacific recorded losses of 6.9 and 9.7 percent, respectively, while the Ebola crisis in Africa caused activity to plummet in the region by 28.2 percent from a year ago.
