Appraiser Society To Offer Aircraft Valuation Course
Program builds on aircraft maintenance skills.

Aircraft technicians seeking to build upon their expertise and broaden their options might want to consider training in aircraft valuation, the practice of performing market or liquidation value appraisals for sales, acquisition, ad valorem taxes, collateralization, insurance or residual forecasting.

The American Society of Appraisers (ASA) has partnered with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Jet Support Services to provide training in aviation valuation. The first of the two courses–Introduction to Machinery and Equipment Valuation–will be held from January 11 to 14 next year in Daytona, Fla. The second offering will take place from February 5 to 8 in Farnborough, England. According to Richard Berkemeier, Machinery and Technical Specialties Education Chair for ASA, plans are also in the works to offer the course in Shanghai.

“Having mechanic skills and experience is definitely a good background for aircraft valuation because it involves constantly looking at and evaluating logbooks, status reports on engines and airframes, evaluating corrosion and other maintenance-related issues,” Berkemeier told AIN. “These courses are for individuals wishing to pursue a career in aviation valuation or for professionals seeking a specialty designation.”
