Demand for charter flights is set to rise over the next 30 days as the European and North American markets gear up for the traditionally busy northern hemisphere summer season, according to data from online charter portal Avinode.

According to the company’s latest forward-looking demand index, projected demand in Europe will rise by between 93 and 157 points, with the strongest aircraft category likely to be midsize business jets with demand up from 178.3 points on April 5 to 335.7 on May 5. Demand for light and midsize jets in North America is expected to increase, but Avinode sees a slight decline in the large-cabin jet category.

The comparison with how demand looked 12 months ago on May 5, 2013, is more variable, with a marked increase over this period for light and midsize jets in North America, but little change for large-cabin jets in that market. The midsize and large-cabin categories in Europe have experienced more moderate improvements, while light jets have seen a slight dip.

Avinode’s pricing index for the same 30-day period shows much smaller fluctuations. European pricing for the three categories of jets was almost unchanged over both the past month and year, but the North American index showed modest upward movement.
