Along with illuminating the runway surface for takeoffs and landings, landing lights are important tools for achieving maximum conspicuity–making yourself easily visible to nearby traffic–especially in terminal and high-density traffic areas. Twin Commander Aircraft is offering a kit to upgrade the twin turboprop’s existing landing lights to new high-intensity discharge (HID) lights.

“The HID bulbs replace incandescent bulbs and provide a significantly higher candlepower rating,” Matt Isley, president of Twin Commander Aircraft, told AIN. “Additionally, the existing wing-mounted landing lights are controlled by servo motors that can be costly to repair. The upgrade kit will deactivate those lights and replace them with stationary HID lights mounted in the nose cone.”

Custom Kit 182L is available in four models. CK182L-1 is for new installations on the Twin Commander 500S, 680W, 681, 685, 690 and 690A/B. The Dash 3 kit is for aircraft in which CK151 (recognition lights) are already installed, replacing the incandescent bulbs with HID lights. The Dash 5 kit deactivates the wing-mounted landing lights and the Dash 7 kit replaces factory-installed nose-mounted recognition lights with HID for the 690C, 690D, 695A and 695B.

Prices for the CK-182L HID lighting kits start at $4,100.
