Duncan Aviation Updates FANS Instructional E-Book

Duncan Aviation (Booth No. C8543) recently released an update to its “Straight Talk About FANS” e-book, providing operators with information on the Future Air Navigation System component of the FAA’s NextGen ATC modernization effort.

Duncan’s team of experts compiled information to explain FANS 1/A, including which equipment is needed and how it functions; the benefits of the enhanced communications systems; and the applicable regulations and certification. “Although there are no easy answers in the retrofit market, our ‘Straight Talk About FANS’ is meant to clarify the FANS protocol and how the mandates affect communications systems in various aircraft,” said Justin Vena, a Duncan Aviation avionics installations sales representative in Battle Creek, Mich.

Vena will conduct an information class, “Understanding FANS,” on Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m., at the Las Vegas Convention Center. He will explain controller pilot data link (CPDLC) communications, automatic dependent surveillance-contract (ADS-C) and how they operate, including details on the components included in a typical system, initial set-up and operation and air-traffic controller hand-off instructions. The session will also address FANS mandates in Europe and the North Atlantic tracks.
