Aviation Groups Praise FAA’s Plan for No-lead Avgas

The General Aviation Avgas Coalition, which includes NBAA and GAMA, praised the FAA’s announcement to formally request sample unleaded fuels for testing as possible replacements for 100LL aviation gasoline. Yesterday, the FAA said that it is “committed to the development of a new unleaded fuel by 2018 that would minimize the impact of replacing 100LL for most of the general aviation fleet.” The FAA will assess the viability of candidate fuels in terms of their impact on the existing fleet, production and distribution infrastructure, impact on the environment and toxicology and economic considerations.
