Eclipse Aerospace Powers Up First Production E550
Eclipse Aerospace powered up the first production Eclipse 550 very light jet last week at its Albuquerque, N.M. facility. It entailed “a normal power on" of both Pratt & Whitney PW610F turbofans and all aircraft systems, the company said.

Eclipse Aerospace powered up the first production Eclipse 550 very light jet at its Albuquerque, N.M. facility, the company announced yesterday. An Eclipse spokesperson told AIN the process entailed “a normal power on of both [Pratt & Whitney PW610F turbofans] and all aircraft systems.”

CEO Mason Holland called the event a “great accomplishment” for the company, adding that it was “another key signal to the world that we continue on our methodical and well executed plan to reintroduce production and delivery of the Eclipse 550 this year.” Eclipse Aerospace expects to deliver the first production aircraft in the third quarter. The Eclipse 550 is a heavily revised version of the original Eclipse 500, building on the original twinjet with design refinements and improved cabin accoutrements, as well as the availability of autothrottles, synthetic vision system and anti-skid brakes.

The new very light jet carries a price tag of $2.695 million, making the Eclipse 550 “the only new twinjet available in the world for less than $3 million,” according to Holland.
