Rotor magazine is showcasing here at Heli-Expo the winners of its third-annual photo contest. More than 330 photographers submitted nearly 1,500 images in five categories for this year’s competition. The $500 grand prize went to Stephen Jaquiery of New Zealand for his photo of a BK117 rescuing a stranded sailor.
Mark St. Pierre from the U.S. took the “Helicopters in the Military” prize for his photo of a Bell UH-1 taking part in a Vietnam re-enactment. “Helicopters at Work” photo honors went to Antonios Tsagkaratos of Greece for his photo of a Hellenic Navy S-76B Seahawk.
York Galland of the U.S. won the “People and Their Helicopters” category for his R44 heli-camping photo. The “Helicopters Serving Their Community” prize went to Canada’s Mark Mennie for his medevac image, while Mike Leland of the U.S. won the “Cellphone Photos” prize for capturing a hiker’s helo rescue.
Category winners receive $50 each. The winning photos are hung inside the exhibit hall opposite the registration area and are also featured in the Winter issue of Rotor.
