Apple published a document noting that the lithium-ion battery that powers its iPad tablet computers meets international battery safety certification standards, which are part of the FAA’s recently issued EFB Advisory Circular (AC 120-76B), according to NBAA. The Apple document states, “The iPad battery has been tested, certified and complies with” standards that include United Nations Transport Regulations UN38.3, for battery safety during air transport, and Underwriters Laboratory 2054, for safety of lithium-ion batteries in general use and UL 60950-1, use of batteries in information technology equipment.
