With Super Bowl XLVI a little over two weeks away, Indianapolis-area FBOs are preparing for the arrival of approximately 1,500 business and general aviation aircraft. “We’re already at more than 60 parking reservations for the game,” Million Air Indianapolis regional director Drent Sarault told AIN. “Our phones are slammed with people wanting parking.” To help cover the costs of contracts for additional de-icing and snow removal equipment, some area airports are charging $75 a day for parking, and airplanes flying into Indianapolis International Airport on game day will also be charged a $75 landing fee. Fees at the other area airports vary by aircraft size and the chosen FBO. Some outlying facilities contacted by AIN said they are also charging a non-refundable parking reservation fee. In addition, operators wanting a heated hangar should have already made reservations, and the remaining hangar availability is now mostly limited to perimeter airports. For those planning to fly in for the big game on February 5, the Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee has set up a “know before you go” web page for business and general aviation operators that includes FAA notams, airspace and security information and an interactive map listing airports and heliports in the area.
