Transport Canada has granted Aviation Partners (API) Canadian supplemental type certificate (STC) approval for its high Mach blended winglets on the Falcon 900 series. The company received an FAA STC in September and anticipates EASA approval shortly.
According to API, its winglets provide a drag reduction and corresponding range increase of 5 percent at Mach 0.80 and more than 7 percent at long-range cruise speeds.
“We will install winglets on our first Canadian-registered customer aircraft starting in early January 2012,” said Gary Dunn, API vice president of sales. Since receiving the FAA’s STC in September, API has installed winglets on five 900-series aircraft; another four are in progress.
“It takes four to five weeks for the installation depending on other work to be accomplished,” Dunn told AIN.
Installation is available through API’s network of authorized installers including Duncan Aviation, Jet Aviation (Midcoast), StandardAero and West Star Aviation in the U.S. and TAG Aviation in Switzerland and Hawker Pacific in Singapore. The list price for winglets is $575,000 not including labor. There is no post-installation flight test or special crew training required.
