Victor, a new UK-based aircraft charter booking and price comparison website that officially opened yesterday, claims to be the “biggest revolution in the industry since the introduction of fractional ownership a quarter of a century ago.” Founder and CEO Clive Jackson told AIN, “Superficially, some think that this has been done before, but it hasn’t.” What sets Victor apart, he said, is that it allows charter costs to be reduced by selling spare legs and seats to other members, with membership–which is free–restricted to wealthy private or corporate travellers. The initial focus is on using European operators, flying to UK and European destinations in light jets. The company levies a 5-percent fee to book charter flights through Victor, which Jackson claims is less than most brokers charge. However, 70 percent of any rebooking of what would have been an empty leg, or seats on the operating legs, will be rebated straight to the booking member or can be used to reduce the amount each passenger pays. Members can also “watch” available or proposed flights and can make a charter booking when enough people want the same flight route and the price split falls to their specified levels.
