Private FBO operator Gary Jet Center, the sole service provider at Gary/Chicago International Airport, has broken ground on a 40,000-sq-ft hangar that will eventually house its offices and FBO. The construction project involved the demolition of a pair of 1950s Quonset hangars to make room for the new structure, which is scheduled for completion next January and will bring the company’s total managed hangar space to more than 100,000 sq ft. The project began as the airport finalized its plans for lengthening its main runway to 8,900 feet. “The business aviation community has shown us that it is on the rise, and we are responding with this project,” said Wil Davis, Gary Jet Center president and CEO. “It’s basic supply and demand.”
