The storied history of a series of well known aviation companies entered its final chapter last month when aircraft charter/management provider and FBO operator Arcadia Aviation closed and laid off all of its employees. The company had FBOs at Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport/Shepherd Field (MRB) in Martinsburg, W.Va., and at Sullivan County International Airport (MSV) in Monticello, N.Y. In each case the FBO was the sole provider on the field. “We weren’t really given information as to what happened,” an employee told AIN, “just that financing wasn’t there so they had to shut the doors. We were all in shock.” At MSV, the airport is currently operating without an official FBO, and Woodstock Aviation, the facility’s operator before Arcadia, is providing jet-A on call, along with self-serve 100LL. An airport representative said several companies have expressed interest in taking over the FBO operations there. In Martinsburg, flight school operator Aero-Smith Flight Center, which ran the FBO before the arrival of Arcadia five years ago, has been asked to resume temporary management of the facility.
