Since 9/11, Signature Flight Support has been working with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and other governmental aviation regulatory agencies and industry associations to improve access to Washington Reagan National Airport (DCA), where the company operates the sole FBO on the field. As a result of collaboration with the TSA, 28 of Signature’s FBOs–out of [those at] 44 approved gateway airports–have been designated as DCA Access Standard Security Program (DASSP) gateway FBOs. According to Mary Miller, vice president of industry and government affairs for Signature and parent company BBA, “The close cooperation between the business and general aviation industry and the TSA has produced a more accessible plan for our customers traveling to the Washington, D.C. area.” Last week, the TSA rolled out several changes to the DASSP to provide increased flexibility with respect to which aircraft is used for a specific flight, as well as the crew composition. The changes are also intended to facilitate flexibility for screening times into and out of DCA. The “prohibited items list” also has been refined to be “more appropriate to general aviation operations.” Signature’s Miller can assist operators with submitting their DASSP applications and tracking their approval process.
