Bristow Helicopters inked a multimillion-dollar, five-year contract with a consortium of oil companies in the North Sea. The renewed deal was signed with the Integrated Aviation Consortium (IAC), which includes BP, CNR International, Fairfield Energy, Petrofac, Shell and TAQA. Bristow will thus provide helicopter services from Scatsta Airport in the Shetland Islands to the East and West Shetland Basins. Under the agreement, Bristow will fly approximately 6,500 hours annually–about 400 helicopter flights per month–and move more than 100,000 passengers per year. As part of the contract, Bristow is also responsible for fixed-wing aircraft services and airport management, for which it has partnered with Eastern Airways and Serco Defence, Science and Nuclear, respectively. Separately, Bristow Helicopters has launched dedicated commercial packages for the offshore wind farm industry. Offered are personnel transfer, freight transportation, aerial observations, rescue and winch-to-work training. The operator has big hopes in this growing market, as each turbine requires between five and 10 visits per year.
