Germany’s Ruag Aviation received EASA certification for the Do-228NG on August 18, two-and-a-half years after the company launched the program to bring the Do-228 back into production. The Oberfaffenhofen factory built more than 200 Dornier Do-228s before production ended in 2002. Ruag holds the original type certificate for the airplane and continued to provide aftermarket support for the 150 aircraft still operating. First flight of the first newly constructed Do-228 took place on July 30, and that airplane flew for more than 2.5 hours from Oberfaffenhofen, flown by test pilots Franz Huber and Gerd Selleske.

Ruag engineers added modern avionics–including the Universal Avionics EFI890 glass cockpit–to the new Do-228, and the engines were upgraded to the Honeywell TPE331-10 series driving five-blade MT-Propeller composite props. More than 300 enhancements were made to the new Do-228.

The 19-passenger Do-228NG has an mtow of 14,100 pounds and a payload of 4,850 pounds. The airplane has a maximum speed of 235 knots and range of more than 450 nm.
