<p>With a target adjournment date of early October and an expiring 15th extension of FAA funding and programs facing Congress, 26 aviation-related associations sent a letter to members of the Senate aviation subcommittee urging swift passage of legislation that would reauthorize the FAA for three years. With the latest temporary extension set to end September 30, the aviation groups wrote, “[We] are in the final countdown to ensure that our National Airspace System becomes even safer and more efficient.” They added that the delay in passing a longer-term FAA reauthorization bill affects all segments of aviation, from general aviation to passenger and cargo airlines, as well as airports, aviation workers, manufacturers, state and municipal governments and most of all the flying public. Last Wednesday, AOPA, the General Aviation Manufacturers Association, the National Air Transportation Association and NBAA sponsored an ad in the Capitol Hill newspaper <em>Politico</em>, urging Congress to “pass FAA reauthorization now.” But Sen. John Rockefeller (D-W.Va.), chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee, recently told Dow Jones that the bill is unlikely to get resolved this year.</p>
