West Star Aviation Donates Bizjet to Local College

West Star Aviation donated a Learjet 35A to Northwestern Community College in Rangely, Colo. The company acquired the airplane last year as a source of parts for another Learjet project. That airplane “needed a fairly significant amount of work, and quite a few parts and components needed replacement. We concluded it would be more cost effective to acquire a second one for parts than to purchase everything new,” said Dave Krogman, West Star Aviation’s general manager. As the project neared completion there was the question of what to do with the remaining airframe. “It was still an intact airframe with some working systems and parts,” Larry McNutt, director of maintenance, told AIN. McNutt is a member of the Advisory Board for the airframe and powerplant mechanic program at Northwestern Community College in Rangely, Colo. “I'm familiar with the program, and over the years we’ve even hired a few of its graduates. For most schools the cost of that type of airplane makes it beyond their reach, and we had to dispose of the airframe. Donating it to them was a win-win.”
