The Canadian Aviation Maintenance Council (CAMC), in partnership with the Western Aerospace Alliance, will be holding its 19th annual CAMC Forum in Vancouver, British Columbia from September 29 to October 1. “We’re a sector council set up by the government to represent Canada’s aviation and aerospace sector. We work in partnership with the industry to help create occupational standards for 26 aviation-related occupations,” Glenn Priestley, CAMC’s director of accreditation and certification, told AIN. “Because our scope has broadened considerably since we were originally formed, we’ll be changing our name to the Canadian Council for Aviation and Aerospace in about a month.” The annual event presents industry trends and best practices, and helps delegates expand their contact networks. According to Priestley, safety management system development is a key part of the forum. “We originally held seminars introducing SMS to Canadian operators but we’re now offering workshops that train to auditor standards so all a person has to do is take the SMS written test to become certified as an auditor,” he said. Some of the topics set for this year's forum include aircraft de/anti-icing, human performance in aviation maintenance, and risk management for SMS.
