Aircraft charter hybrid XOJet said it will install airborne high-speed Internet to its fleet of five Bombardier Challenger 300s and 19 Cessna Citation Xs. XOJeT is currently installing Wi-Fi-capable Aircell high-speed Internet systems and expects that more than 70 percent of its fleet will be equipped by the end of this month, with the rest scheduled for completion next month.

When the installations are completed, XOJetwill become the first business aircraft charter operator to offer wireless service on every flight in the continental U.S., according to the company. XOJet customers will be able to use any Wi-Fi-enabled devices–including laptops, netbooks and smartphones–to access the Internet in flight. They will be able to browse Web sites, send and receive e-mail with attachments, access a corporate VPN, conduct research and download music, among other things.

Company president Benjamin Murray said the Aircell systems will create a “flying board room” that allows clients to continue doing business in flight. John Wade, executive vice president and general manager of Aircell, noted, “Business aircraft operators [like XOJet] are quickly realizing that the in-flight connectivity landscape has completely changed in the past 12 months.”
