Thrane & Thrane has taken the wraps off what it claims is the smallest, lightest satcom equipment available for linking through Inmarsat broadband services in flight. The company’s Aviator 200 satcom system can create a wireless hotspot in the aircraft cabin, allowing a wide range of Wi-Fi devices.

Aviator 200 uses a small blade antenna, offering data connection speeds of up to 200 kbps, “providing smaller aircraft with a complete airborne communications solution where this was not achievable before,” said the company.

Thrane & Thrane is also rebranding its existing SwiftBroadband product line to adopt the new Aviator name. The Aero SB Lite system (with intermediate-gain antenna) becomes the Aviator 300, while the Aero SB Lite with high-gain antenna is now
the Aviator 350. The Aero SB+ unit is now called the Aviator 700.
