France’s Nice Cote d’Azur Airport now has a consolidated general aviation terminal (GAT) housing three FBOs: Swissport Executive Aviation (a joint venture between Swissport and Universal Weather & Aviation), Signature Flight Support (with Aviapartner) and Landmark Aviation. The 16,000-sq-ft GAT addresses the long-running problem of business aircraft passengers and crew having
to arrive and depart through the main terminal at Nice. The GAT will have its own customs and immigration facilities and direct access to the ramp. In April, Signature and Aviapartner opened their FBO at Nice, with a new VIP lounge five times larger than the previous facility’s and dedicated pilot lounge with video games, flat-screen televisions, WSI weather and business center services. At Cannes-Mandelieu Airport, more space for parking and maintaining business aircraft is now available, with a new 21,500-sq-ft hangar that opened in April. Efforts to make the building environmentally friendly include maximizing natural light in the hangar and a ventilation shaft that brings in outside air via underground ducts. Another two hangars are planned at Cannes, each enclosing 45,000 sq ft. The first is set to open in 2012, the second in 2014. Cannes this month is also adding 48,000 sq ft of new outdoor parking space.
