Bombardier Aerospace on Saturday opened its newest wholly owned service center, located at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam. The $8 million facility’s 45,339 sq ft can accommodate eight Learjets, four Challengers and two Globals, and it offers repair work on airframes, engines and avionics. An initial staff of 37 is expected to increase to 50 by year-end. The facility is part of a five-year plan by the Canadian manufacturer to invest $35 million on a worldwide service and maintenance network, encompassing three major service hubs in North America, Europe and Asia. The main hub in Montreal is already operating, as is the new Schiphol location. The company has not yet decided on the location of the third hub, which will serve the Asian market. In addition to the major hubs, Bombardier operates seven company-owned service centers and oversees 50 authorized third-party centers.
