The Teterboro Airport Industry Working Group sent a letter to the FAA requesting increased priority from the agency for building a new ATC tower at the busy airport. “The current control tower at TEB was constructed in the early 1970s as a temporary facility and does not provide controllers an unobstructed view of vital areas of the field,” according to the group. “This new tower project has been in play for the better part of 10 years,” Peter Bellini, president of the TEB user group, told AIN. “The airport has outgrown the tower, and a new one will greatly improve the margin of safety.”

While Teterboro Airport’s owner, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, has spent more than $100 million on other safety improvements, the letter noted, “Despite repeated requests that a new tower for [Teterboro] be placed on the FAA’s Capital Plan priority list, the project still remains a low priority for the agency.” Signatories to the letter include AvPorts, Dassault Falcon, First Aviation Services, General Aviation Manufacturers Association, Jet Aviation, Meridian Air Charter, NBAA, NetJets Aviation, Signature Flight Support and Teterboro Airport.
