Matt Thurber, editor-in-chief at AIN Media Group, has been flying since 1975 and writing about aviation since 1978 and now has the best job in the world, running editorial operations for Aviation International News, Business Jet Traveler, and FutureFlight.aero. In addition to working as an A&amp;P mechanic on everything from Piper Cubs to turboprops, Matt taught flying at his father’s flight school in Plymouth, Mass., in the early 1980s, flew for an aircraft owner/pilot, and for two summer seasons hunted swordfish near the George’s Banks off the East Coast from a Piper Super Cub. An ATP certificated fixed-wing pilot and CFII and commercial helicopter pilot, Matt is type-rated in the Citation 500 and Gulfstream V/550. <link ainmxreports>opened its new FBO at Cape Town International Airport on October 29, in plenty of time to prepare for anticipated high levels of traffic during next year’s 2010 FIFA World Cup soccer contest. ExecuJet opened its Cape Town FBO in 2004, but the existing facility wasn’t large enough to accommodate rapid growth in traffic. The new FBO is parallel to the airport’s main runway and includes 54,000 sq ft of hangar space, 75,000 sq ft of ramp space, VIP lounges, undercover car parking, concierge and secretarial services and a fully equipped conference room. Cost of the new FBO was R250 million ($33.8 million). ExecuJet bases 12 charter aircraft at the Cape Town facility, and it offers maintenance services for local and foreign aircraft operators.
