ARG/US Data Shows Improvement in Flying Activity

Business aircraft activity in October climbed 5.14 percent over September, according to Aviation Research Group/U.S. (ARG/US), and was 2.5 percent higher than October 2008. Once again, turboprop activity led the field, with an improvement of 9.1 percent (14.1 percent Part 91, -4.2 percent Part 135 and a significantly higher 26.1 percent fractional operations). Part 91 operations climbed the most overall at 5.9 percent, but overall Part 135 operations saw a 0.7-percent increase, spurred by a 12.8-percent increase in midsize jet operations. All-aircraft fractional operations declined by 5.9 percent, with the bright spots the turboprops and large-cabin jets (up 0.8 percent). According to ARG/US, “Total flight activity for the last 12 months as compared to the previous 12 months is down 18.41 percent (November 2007 to October 2008 versus November 2008 to October 2009).” ARG/US’s TraqPak data “is serial-number-specific aircraft arrival and departure information on all IFR flights in the U.S. (including Alaska and Hawaii).”
