VJS Lincoln announced the recent completion of a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility for Hawker Beechcraft at Indianapolis International Airport. The $14 million facility encompasses more than 75,000 sq ft of interior space, including a 40,000-sq-ft hangar.

VJS Lincoln (Booth, No. 3720), a specialist in hangar construction, does not manufacture hangars, hangar doors or hangar components, but rather uses its expertise in construction and hangar design to create customized designs, according to owner-in-charge Rick Aldritsch.

“There are a lot of unique aspects to a hangar. If the aircraft owner is a pilot, that changes the thinking of how you want to build the hangar. If he’s an MRO guy, it’s different,” Aldritsch said. “We’ll put together design options and the life-cycle costs of each.“

Based in Pewaukee, Wis., the company often teams with local service providers for its projects. “We hire local civil engineering people in the community,” Aldritsch said. “They know the soil and environmental conditions.”

Aldritsch said that the company not only builds new hangars, but can refurbish hangars to save owners the cost of new construction.

“The client wanted a new hangar because the new airplane wouldn’t fit through the hangar doors,” Aldritsch said. “We told him he could just modify the doors. Instead of $2.5 million for a new hangar, it cost him $250,000.”
