The first Embraer Phenom 100 incident caused no injuries to the two crewmembers aboard and damage only to the landing gear and flaps when the light jet overran the runway while landing last week in the Brazilian beach town of Angra dos Reis. No passengers were on board at the time of the incident. A pilot holding for takeoff said the Phenom approached the runway at above-normal speed. “When he was running out of runway, the captain tried to turn the aircraft, but it slid backwards off the runway,” he said. Weather was clear at the time of the incident, but high winds were reported later. Embraer has sent technicians to help investigate the incident, the first involving a Phenom 100–in this case S/N 49, which was delivered just two months ago. According to Embraer, the damage is repairable, although by one report both main landing gear came off. According to data from Embraer, the Phenom 100 requires 3,125 feet to take off; the field length at Angra Airport is 3,001 feet.
