On February 11, Lakefront Airport officials celebrated the 75th anniversary
of the New Orleans airport and launched the restoration of the famed art deco Shushan airport terminal, which was severely damaged during Hurricane Katrina. Formerly named Shushan Airport, then New Orleans Airport in 1940, the airport became New Orleans Lakefront Airport in 1964. The restoration will bring the terminal building back to its original 1934 design and preserve its status as one of the oldest and most historic aviation properties in the country.
