ExecuJet Europe last week opened its redesigned and enlarged FBO at Berlin-Schönefeld Airport ,which will serve the influx of business aviation traffic that will flock to Schönefeld following the closure today of the German capital’s downtown Tempelhof Airport. With the closure of Tempelhof, Schönefeld–located 13 miles south of central Berlin–is expected to see its business aircraft traffic quickly increase to at least 30 to 40 daily movements. ExecuJet’s two-floor, 4,300-sq-ft facility features passenger lounges on the first floor, with operational facilities, a crew lounge and a conference room on the second floor. The building, which underwent a $510,000 redevelopment, is situated next door to the Lufthansa Bombardier Aviation Services maintenance facility, in which ExecuJet is a joint-venture partner. ExecuJet’s new premises are part of Schönfeld’s General Aviation Terminal. This is located between the 24-hour airport’s parallel runways on the site where the new passenger terminal complex for the redeveloped Berlin-Brandenburg International Airport (BBIA) is being built. BBIA will eventually become Berlin’s only airport, with Tegel Airport–on the northwest side of the city–due to close in 2011.
