Aircraft refurbisher Goderich Aircraft has broken ground on a 43,000-sq-ft hangar at its Huron Park, Ontario (Canada) facility. When completed, the new structure will have space for two Boeing Business Jets, and back shops to support heavy maintenance, modifications and installation of avionics and refurbished interior components, as well as a customer lounge, conference rooms and an interior design center. “We’ve got larger contracts already in place with some Middle Eastern clients,” said Andy Orr, Goderich’s vice president of sales, “and the VIP airliner conversion market still seems to be strong.” When asked why Goderich is expanding in the midst of a looming recession, he said, “We’re in this for the long term, and the market volatility that everyone is seeing will pass.” In business for 15 years, Goderich Aircraft has more than 130 employees. Orr expects the new hangar to come online in February, by which time between 70 and 80 new jobs will have been added.
