Van Nuys Airport last month introduced a draft environmental impact report for the proposed Noisier Aircraft Phaseout Project. The preliminary plan calls for establishing a maximum noise level for arriving and departing aircraft at Van Nuys, beginning with a phase-out of aircraft generating noise levels of 77 dBA or more on departure. The phase-out would start January 1, with a four-step reduction in the allowable maximum, followed by enforcement of the 77-dBA maximum level after Jan. 12, 2016.
