S-Tec (Booth No. 2293) has approved Sandel Avionics (Booth No. 4642) SA4550 primary attitude display for use with S-Tec’s System 55, 55X, 60-2 and 65
autopilots following successful flight testing.

The SA4550 display uses Sandel’s patented rear-projection display technology with LED backlighting. It has a 180-degree viewing angle, bright color rendition and a mean time between failure of more than 10,000 hours. S-Tec has received STC approval for the installation of System 55, 55X, 60-2 and 65 autopilots in numerous aircraft, including turboprop models such as King Airs and Twin Commanders. The installation of the display will in most cases be covered under Sandel’s STC-approved model list but can also be approved through FAA field offices.

“This opens the door for numerous aircraft owners, especially those in the turboprop
market, who would like an affordable upgrade for their flight directors and autopilots,” said Sandel director of sales Jerry Henry. “Our product support team worked with S-Tec to verify that our products are compatible and we are pleased that a combined solution is now available for our mutual customers.”

A spokesman for S-Tec said the Sandel display is a “fantastic” replacement for mechanical flight instruments. “They deliver an amazing array of digital display capabilities without needing to totally replace an entire panel,” he said.
