Ultraleather Spells Fuel Savings
Noting that “every ounce counts,” Tapis is promoting its Ultraleather as a fuel saver.

Noting that “every ounce counts,” Tapis is promoting its Ultraleather as a fuel saver. At 310 grams per square meter, it weighs less than half as much as natural leathers and 60 to 90 grams less per square yard than most lightweight leathers. The Armonk, N.Y.-based company also points out that Ultraleather offers 100-percent yield, while cutting from natural hides typically results in a 33-percent loss. Other advantages, according to Tapis, include easier tailoring and less shrinkage than natural leather. Ultraleather comes in more than 65 colors and a multi-stretch variety that fits around curves more smoothly.
