Organizers at the Latin American Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition (LABACE) had forecast the largest show to date and they were not disappointed by the turnout at the event, held last week in São Paulo, Brazil. By the end of the second day, the visitor count had exceeded 6,500, some 500 more than attended the entire three-day event last year. Officials for the sponsoring Associação Brasileira de Aviação Geral (ABAG) said the final visitor tally came to 11,300 and the 108 exhibitors easily surpassed last year’s 71. Preliminary reports suggest that the show generated more than $300 million in new business for attending aircraft manufacturers. While ABAG describes the show as a resounding success, the organization is now faced with the possibility of finding a new venue. According to ABAG’s new president, Ricardo Nogueira, there is some question as to whether the conveniently located space at the old VASP hangars at São Paulo Congonhas Airport will be available next year. Like the location, a date for LABACE 2009 remains to be set.
