On-demand air-taxi firm SATSair on Tuesday signed a letter of intent with Cirrus Design to add five Cirrus Vision SJ50 jet singles to its fleet. SATSair, which currently operates 26 Cirrus SR22s, will integrate the single-engine jets into its operations–following the SJ50’s expected certification in 2010–as a hybrid to its Southeastern whole-airplane charter network. “The Cirrus Vision jets will bolster our successful business model,” noted SATSair president and CEO Steve Hanvey, “by extending the scope of SATSair’s air cab service beyond its traditional range and will enable our customers to extend the reach of their businesses in a timely, efficient manner.” According to Hanvey, “The Cirrus Vision will meet the additional demands of the personal air [travel] market and will fit our business model perfectly.” He said this business model is based on operating single-pilot and single-engine airplanes at the lowest cost of operation in a given geographical area. Since SATSair will operate the jets single-pilot, just as it does its SR22s, the company said the SJ50s will come with whole-aircraft parachutes, one of the options Cirrus is offering on the very light jet.
