A near midair collision on July 21 at Chicago O’Hare International Airport that involved an American Eagle Embraer ERJ 145 regional jet and a Part 91-operated Bombardier Learjet 60 is under investigation by the NTSB. At 12:47 p.m. local time, the regional jet was departing Runway 32L and the Learjet– N252RP, owned and operated by Electrolux Home Products–was landing on Runway 9R. The local assistant/monitor for the local air traffic controller noticed the converging paths of the two airplanes and advised the controller to instruct the Learjet to perform a go-around. According to the Safety Board, analysis of the radar tapes showed that the Learjet passed 325 feet above and slightly behind the departing Embraer regional jet. There were no reported injuries or damage to either aircraft. New procedures were implemented for arrivals as a result of this incident.
