Meggitt Avionics is to provide its Magic electronic flight information system (EFIS) as part of a retrofit program for the Raytheon King Air C90 twin-turboprop. The new generation avionics suite will also be based on Honeywell’s Bendix/King KFC 250 three-axis autopilot. Available as options will be Honeywell’s IHAS 8000 integrated hazard avoidance system and datalink weather system.
According to Meggitt, certification of the retrofit is due to be completed by the second quarter of next year. The basic package will be priced at $125,000, plus a further $63,000 for the IHAS 8000 unit with weather radar, flat-panel primary flight and navigation displays and the air-data and attitude and heading reference system.
The Manchester, N.H.-based avionics firm, which is part of the UK’s Meggitt plc group, has also announced four other new applications for the Magic EFIS. These are in addition to its use on Piper’s Meridian model, for which more than 100 shipsets have already been supplied by Meggitt.
Fairchild Dornier has chosen the EFIS as well as the associated engine instrument display system for an upgrade of its Merlin and Metro regional aircraft. New Zealand’s Pacific Aerospace has chosen the EFIS for its CT4 trainer aircraft. American Utilicraft’s new FF1080-200 high-wing, twin-engine light freighter also features the Magic EFIS.
Announcing results for the first half of 2001 on September 7, Meggitt said the success of the Magic program has been a major factor behind a 17-percent growth in sales, which have risen from $263 million in the first six months of last year to $320 million.
