Playing its cards close, Savannah, Ga.-based Gulfstream Aerospace is still officially saying little about its “mystery” follow-on to the G-IV, but there are whispers that more may be revealed about the airplane later this year. In 2000 Rolls-Royce announced that the model would be powered by a pair of Fadec-equipped Tay 611 turbofans and in May last year Gulfstream said it had hired Kurt Erbacher as vice president for its GIV-X program “to lead the design, development and certification of the next generation of the Gulfstream IV.” Another systems vendor referred to the airplane as the GVI. Industry guesstimates give the next-gen GIV, whatever it is called, an NBAA IFR range of between 4,500 nm and 5,000 nm.
