The FAA and City of Los Angeles have partnered to install runway status lights at Los Angeles International Airport. The system includes red lights embedded in pavement that warn pilots that it is unsafe to cross or enter a runway. Los Angeles World Airports is paying the $6 million cost for the system. Testing should begin early next year. The status lights are currently installed at DFW Airport in Texas and San Diego’s Lindbergh Field.
